Kensington Corridor Trust seeks Community Organizer

Organizational Overview:

The mission, duty and purpose of the Kensington Corridor Trust (KCT) is to help the Kensington community reclaim control over a once thriving commercial corridor by reactivating real estate, fostering local entrepreneurship and reinvesting capital in the neighborhood. Activities will focus on restoring cleanliness and safety, attracting and accelerating businesses to provide goods and services that meet local needs, and increasing job opportunities. The Trust’s programming is underpinned by strategic property acquisition, development, and activation. The KCT’s vision is that Kensington Avenue is a safe, healthy, and socioeconomically diverse commercial corridor with accessible opportunities for the existing and future residents of Kensington.

Position Overview:

The KCT is seeking a self-motivated, outgoing Community Organizer to join our small, yet effective team. The Community Organizer will conduct outreach, base building, training, education and leadership development among residents and small business owners in Kensington. The organizer will be responsible for membership involvement in city, state, and federal campaigns and coalitions working on issues related to our mission and equitable neighborhood development. Beyond connecting with the communities of Kensington, the organizer’s job is to gather stories from impacted communities and work with them to build a vision for the Kensington Avenue corridor. To this end, the work will involve organizing community information sessions and facilitating access to resources and programs that would benefit the neighborhood. As part of the job, the community organizer will develop outreach and education materials, plan events, and identify impacted community members to share their own stories in ways that will enhance advocacy and policy.
