Ideas We Should Steal Festival: “Art As a Means of Social Change.”

What are the bold ideas that can transform Philadelphia?
Who is bringing solutions to the problems plaguing cities across the country? How can we make our city a more just, equitable and prosperous place to live?

Artist SHEPARD FAIREY will join Mural Arts Philadelphia doyenne JANE GOLDEN and others for the first day of the festivalDecember 1, on a panel entitled “Art As a Means of Social Change.”

In 1989, Fairey created the “Andre the Giant has a Posse” sticker that transformed into the OBEY GIANT art campaign, with imagery that has changed the way people see art and the urban landscape. His work has evolved into an acclaimed body of art, which includes the 2008 “Hope” portrait of Barack Obama, found at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. His works are in the permanent collections of the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Victoria and Albert Museum, and many others.
