The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is expanding its inventory of Philadelphia’s public school buildings to recognize public school buildings constructed from 1937 to 1980. Join us for a discussion of this fascinating period, which combined new theories of education with new architectural styles such as Art Moderne, International Style, and Brutalism.
An expert panel will discuss the work and research completed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to date, how the inventory can be used by the leaders, managers, developers, and stewards of Philadelphia’s public schools, and possible approaches to maintaining and adapting these important educational spaces.
Panelists include:
• Cory Kegerise, Community Preservation Coordinator (Eastern Region)
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
• Domenic Vitiello, Associate Professor, City & Regional Planning
University of Pennsylvania
• Linda Dottor, Communications Manager
Community Design Collaborative
