Please join The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Philadelphia research and policy initiative for a panel discussion among local housing leaders about housing affordability in Philadelphia, and a briefing on Pew’s new report on this issue.
The ongoing and intersecting public health, economic, and racial equity crises have further highlighted the importance of access to safe and affordable housing, long a priority for local policymakers, advocates, and community members. Through research and convenings, Pew aims to shed additional light on the drivers of Philadelphia’s housing affordability challenges and policy levers to address these issues.
This convening has two parts. First, a briefing on Pew’s newly-released report, “The State of Housing Affordability in Philadelphia,” which provides a detailed look at housing affordability in Philadelphia by focusing on the demand side of the equation – the price of housing and people’s ability to pay for it.
Second, a panel discussion among local housing leaders who will share their reactions to the report and their ideas about what to do about the city’s affordability challenges.
The panelists are:
• City Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, Chair of Council’s Committee on Housing, Neighborhood Development, and the Homeless
• Brian Hudson, past Executive Director and CEO, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency
• Nora Lichtash, Executive Director, Women’s Community Revitalization Project
• Rasheedah Phillips, Managing Attorney for Housing Policy, Community Legal Services
• Moderator: Larry Eichel, senior adviser, The Pew Charitable Trusts
