State of Young Philly: Is it my Place? How to be a Good Neighbor in a Changing Philadelphia

Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission
Nov 04, 2019 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Philadelphia is home to some of the most rapidly gentrifying zip codes in the nation. If you’re from these areas, it can be difficult to witness familiar places change. And if you’re just moving in, it can feel challenging to navigate new dynamics and get to know your neighbors. So what do you do? How do you get involved and connect with the community in meaningful and authentic ways?

Join PlanPhilly, Young Involved Philadelphia and a panel of community leaders at State of Young Philly for a conversation about how to be a good neighbor:
– Learn tangible steps you can take to approach your neighborhood in a way that is respectful to all residents, both old and new.
– Hear about the ways people in your neighborhood may be affected by demographic trends and most importantly, consider the role each of us play in the changing city.
– Meet the organizations that are doing the work to mitigate and address these changes.
– Find opportunities to volunteer and enroll in courses to become a better neighbor.

Panelists:
Helen Gym, Philadelphia City Council
Eliza Kinsey, South Philly Co-op
John Chin, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation
Naida Elena Burgos, Citizens Planning Institute Contributor

Event includes a panel discussion and a chance to network with one another about volunteer opportunities and shared missions, with light bites and coffee.
